Core Training: Framing the RON Call

Posted July 14, 2025

When you’re preparing to send a client their first Remote Online Notarization (RON) session, the way you present that initial phone call is crucial. Most clients are unfamiliar with RON, so your goal is to make the experience smooth, clear, and simple.

How to Frame the Call

1. Start With Who You Are and Who You Represent

  • “Hi, my name is _____, I’m the notary working with [Your Title Company or Law Firm].”
  • If you’re an independent notary, reference the company or law firm that hired you.

2. Ask if They’ve Ever Done RON Before

Even if they say yes, always explain the process. Different platforms operate differently, and their previous experience may be outdated or inaccurate.

3. Walk Them Through What to Expect

  • Let them know: “You’ll receive an email invitation with a link to start the session.”
  • Confirm the appointment time: “Your session is scheduled for Tuesday at 2:00 PM.”
  • Recommend logging in a few minutes early.
  • Provide a number they can call if they have any questions.

4. Explain the Verification Steps Clearly

  • ID verification includes uploading the front and back of their ID and taking a selfie.
  • They’ll answer security questions and enter their SSN (used only for anti-fraud verification).

5. Set Expectations for the Total Time Commitment

Let them know the session typically takes around 10-15 minutes, depending on their comfort with technology.
